The joint Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Electrical Engineering of the Technische Hochschule München decides to establish a Chair for Automatic Control Engineering – the third of its kind in the Federal Republic of Germany.

Dr.-Ing. Ludwig Merz, Siemens AG, Karlsruhe is appointed as Full Professor and Director of the Institute of Automatic Control Engineering at October 1, 196.

After Professor L. Merz’s retirement, Dr.-Ing Günther Schmidt, Dornier AG, Friedrichshafen is appointed as Full Professor und Director of the Institute of Measurement Technology and Automatic Control Engineering at September 1, 1971.

Professor G. Schmidt, 1971 - 2003

After Professor G. Schmidt’s retirement, Professor Dr.-Ing. Martin Buss, TU Berlin follows as Professor of Automatic Control Engineering at June 18, 2003.
